This tour was much more than we expected. Our guide gave us a great tour and told interesting historical facts and then went on to explain the history of the district and the coffee houses.
Very informative and fun. Enjoyed the walking tour very much. The area was interesting and the tour guide made the tour fun!
Our tour guide, Tony(?), was wonderful! In spite of his being (only) 21, he was very considerate of our aged group. Tony was prompt at meeting us at the designated location at Central Station and took us on a well-paced informative and interesting tour of the Red Light District. We thought our tour was going to occur later in the evening, but he contacted us about considering an earlier time. I am very glad he did. He explained the Red Light district could become quite bustling in the evenings; we could already see the pace picking up as our tour was ending. FYI - You must provide your birthdate to take this tour; I can only assume Tony or Viator had the foresight to determine our group would be more comfortable with an earlier tour. He made certain we were able to get back to our hotel before departing.
The private Red Light District tour was exceptional. Tony was a wonderful and informative guide, and also very knowledgeable. There were only two people on the tour, so when it says private tour, it is no exaggeration. Tony outlined the general history of the area, as well as many other social and urban development aspects. He also took a great photo of us with a pleasing subject/background balance. The walk through the bona fide red light parts was done with courtesy and deference to the locals and ourselves. We saw in the newspapers that these tours are going to be discontinued as from next year. I understand the reasoning (esp. avoiding the impression that this part of Amsterdam is like a theme park), but the way Tony did the tour it was not disrespectful or stereotypical in any way. He is a great guide and this tour gets five stars from us. Hopefully such small private tours will continue to be allowed, because this was not really a tour - it was an opportunity to experience a very real place with someone who was more than a local friend than a guide.
Felt rushed and while the guide seemed to have a lot of knowledge on the current industry of coffeeshops and red light, lacked enthusiasm and knowledge on the history side. Tony was nice, but a fast speaker and not so great at taking photos for us. We glad we did it the first night and got to focus rest of the trip on the real Amsterdam but it wasn't worth the price as a private two person tour that finished in 1.5 hr.
nothing great.
Our guide gave us a great tour and told us a lot about the history of Amsterdam. It was a pretty chilly day, so we warmed up in a coffeeshop and had some great smoke! This tour was worth every penny!
Really awesome tour! Tour guide Marina was the best! She had so much knowledge and energy that the tour felt like it went by quickly! She made it very interactive as well, often asking our experience and opinion on things and just holding a conversation with us nicely. She took us to the best places and showed us stuff only a local would know. Would recommend 100!!
We Loved Tony! I believe Tony can adapt to the people that are in his tour. We do not all want to see the same sides of the Red Light lifestyle. Tony was very informative and has a lot of historical and practical knowledge that he wants to share with you. Laura, Fran and I really wanted to delve in the business side of the red light district and we had a ball! You feel like you are hanging out with a friend that moved to another town. Tony also recommended a small Vietnamese restaurant and the Pho was delicious. We believe Tony enjoyed himself as much as we did! Thoroughly recommend!
