As the name of the tour suggests, you're basically just paying for a ride. Our guide was young and still learning, but he had some good information, even though he was reading off a tablet in the van and people in the back couldn't hear him. He wasn't very professional. Didn't even care to get everybody's names, so the whole thing felt awkward, like we didn't belong there. Also, there are several tour companies that pick up from the same spot. Madrid Bus Vision is the one with the yellow umbrella, but we had no way of knowing that without asking someone. Our driver was also crazy. He was speeding down a windy mountain road and tail gating a truck on the way down.I didn't know the monastery can be reached by road, and we ended up having to wait 10 minutes for three other passengers who took the train. After they finally arrived our guide lead us around for 10 minutes and gave us some historic information. He then said, "Those who purchased tickets for the museum, come with me. The rest of you are free to do whatever you want." WHOAH WHOAH WHOAH! Nowhere did we read that museum tickets needed to be purchased in advance, so we didn't get to see it. In addition, we didn't even get to see the Black Madonna or choir because, I didn't book this tour to stand in line for one hour. So with over an hour to kill, we started exploring around and found a nice hiking trail through the rocks and forest, which killed most of the time. Then we basically paced back and forth between the shops, restaurants and street vendors before our guide arrived. That's right, the entire complex is lined with shops, restaurants, hotels, street vendors and cars. Not to mention, the original monastery was destroyed by the French in the 1800s, so everything you see was built within the last two centuries. Also, the monastery is very small, and unless you plan to see the museum and Madonna, it can be toured in 10 minutes. I thought this would be one of the highlights of my trip, and was disappointed to see this sacred place had been turned into a commercialized tourist trap. Had I known this, I would have booked a tour to another place. But I can't blame the tour company or guide for what the place has become, which is why I'm not giving this tour a 1.
