I had a great time on the buggie and swim/waterfall tour. I had absolute blast doing the dune buggie drive with Rancho Los Cacaos. The trails take you through their farm and another working farm so you pass some horses and cows along the way. The view of the countryside was beautiful, but the best part was zipping along the trails in the buggie. The guide was always in view in front of me, but I was able to open it up about as fast as I could handle. The adrenaline rush was awesome! Be prepared to get a little wet and a little muddy. How wet and muddy, is only partially up to you, but I loved hitting the gas and plowing through the river and some muddy sections. When I got back, I got a little information on the culture and fruits of the region. I even got to try some fresh guanabana soursop juice which was very tasty. All of the people involved with the buggie part were great. After that, it was off to the waterfalls tour. Some waterfall tours do all 27, this one only did 7 of them but that was stated in the description, so I knew that going in. The waterfall tour is actually run by a separate company, but my guide for the day that picked me up and brought me to Rancho Los Cacaos and then the waterfalls and eventually back to my hotel got me all checked in and set up with my waterfall guide. I note that just because the rest is going to be generally applicable regardless of what company you book through. It was fun. Where ever you start, you work your way down, sliding over the rocks or jumping from them into a natural pool below some you can repeat. I would definitely do it again on another trip to Puerto Plata. Helpful tips that I didn't know: 1. It was about a 20-30 minute walk in and about a 20 minute walk back out. On the way in, a lot was uphill or up stairs cut into the trail. You are covered by forest, but it was still a long walk over uneven or rocky terrain and through river on the way back and not easy. We caught up to a group that was doing all 27 and where we broke off to do the 7 waterfalls, their guide said they had about another 20 minutes or so to get to the top. FWIW, that group said this was their 4th time visiting Puerto Plata and this tour is always on the must do list. Just be prepared as it is somewhat physically taxing. 2. Wear good aqua shoes with tread but that are comfortable because of all the walking. This was my fault, but I wore the wrong footwear. I had an old pair of running shoes I didn't mind potentially ruining. They were good for the walk and getting muddy on the buggie tour, but the soles were fairly worn out. The rocks are wet and smooth so they can also be slippery. 3. The water is far from freezing cold, but it was a little colder than I thought it would be. I acclimated quickly, but when I first stepped in, I was a little surprised. Overall, the waterfalls were a lot of fun too, but for me, the buggy tour was by far my favorite part.
